AvWx.net Satellite Images
AvWx.net will show satellite images covering most of North and South America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. You can request an infrared satellite image centered on any airport in North America located below 65° North latitude. (All but 2 airports in Quebec, 4 in the Yukon and 33 in Nunavut and the Northwest Territory). The picture on the right is the current satellite picture centered on the South Lake Tahoe airport. |
South American coverage includes any airport located above 50° South latitude, which misses only 7 airports in Southern Chile, 7 in Southern Argentina and two on South Georgia, in the Falkland Islands.

|
Eastern Hemisphere coverage currently extends from Iceland to Japan and Australia. This covers all airports below 65° North and above 50° South. Our complete worldwide coverage lets you find a picture for any country by specifying an airport, and the Airport Search feature makes that easy. |
The infrared satellite images map temperatures so clouds with higher tops show as brighter white. This makes it easy to gauge the troublemaking potential of any depicted weather system.
The AvWx.net maps & satellite images will work on cell phones with a color screen and browsers that can render color images. Some cell phones have very limited memory available for image handling, and may not display the satellite images even though they display the WxServer radar maps properly.
We have set up a free test page with sample maps and satellite images so you can verify operation with your phone. To check the compatibility of your phone simply start your browser and surf to:If you can see the radar maps there, you can use the system. You can also determine whether or not your phone has a problem displaying satellite images.
There is also a list of popular phones used on AvWx.net by other pilots.
AvWx.net Radar Maps are web-based, so you don't have to download an application into your cell phone. This means that the AvWx.net system isn't taking up space in your phone when you're not using it.
